German Airways and Luxair enter into wet-lease partnership / An Embraer E190 from German Airways will fly for Luxair

Luxair, Luxembourg's national airline, and German Airways, Germany's second oldest airline, will be working together in the near future: Luxair will deploy an Embraer 190 from German Airways on its European route network. Due to the foreseeable resumption of leisure travel, the airline needs additional capacity on longer routes for the 2022 summer season to meet the expected high demand.

From mid-May, the Embraer190 will complement Luxair's current fleet of eight Boeing 737s and eleven De Havilland DHC-8-400s. With a capacity of 100 seats, the aircraft will provide German Airways with greater flexibility and better meet the strong travel demand of Luxair passengers.

Booking figures have been at a high level for several weeks now. This shows that many customers want to travel again. The current easing of restrictions in connection with Covid-19 in many countries is allowing customers to plan ahead. Bookings for the summer are increasing. Luxair is therefore increasing its capacity. The Embraer will allow Luxair to free up capacity on the Boeing 737 and increase services to high-demand holiday destinations to meet demand.

German Airways operates a fleet of five modern and economical Embraer E190s, which the company leases to other airlines, including crews, under wet lease agreements. The airline has announced plans to expand its fleet by a further four Embraer E190s in the coming months.

Maren Wolters, Managing Director of German Airways: "We are delighted that Luxair is working with us. We are thus benefiting from our good reputation, which we have worked hard to earn: We are known as a very reliable service provider with great expertise in the industry. With Luxair, we are adding another major European airline to our customer base, which already includes renowned European airlines."

Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair: "We urgently need to increase our capacity on longer routes to support the revitalisation of leisure travel. The Embraer 190 from German Airways will relieve our Boeing 737 fleet in the summer to create capacity for the most popular holiday destinations, all while maintaining our quality at the highest level. The E190 will increasingly take over flights on business travel routes. The signs are pointing to growth and this partnership will help us bridge the gap until Luxair can increase its own capacity. Luxair has already utilised various wet lease capacities in the past in order to be able to react more quickly to market changes."
