Your training as a commercial pilot (m/f/d)

Together with our partner TFC Flight Training Essen, we will accompany you on your journey to your MPL (A) licence including Embraer E190 Type Rating.

What you bring with you

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • General higher education entrance qualification, entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification
  • Good knowledge of German and English
  • Residence and work permit for Germany

FAQs

The training takes place at our partner TFC Flight Training in Essen. Some modules may take place at other locations, but the main location remains Essen.

At the end of the training you will receive the MPL (A) - Multi-Crew Pilot Licence, including type rating for the Embraer E190. The line training is part of the programme and takes place directly at German Airways.

The training costs are around €96,000.
They are due in several instalments in line with the course of the training.

Not included are:
  • Cost of living
  • Registration and examination fees from the authorities
  • Possible additional costs for accommodation or travelling
These must be borne by the customer.

If additional training is required over and above the regular training programme, the participant shall bear these costs themselves.

The selection process is expected to be completed by the end of March 2026.

The next course starts at the end of September 2026 and comprises approx. 8 participants.

Further courses are offered depending on the selection procedure for the respective course.

It is not possible to guarantee recruitment - especially 24 months in advance - as this depends on staffing requirements.

Advantage for graduates:
You already have a type rating and have completed line training, which significantly increases your chances compared to classic CPL(A) graduates.

The training rates are based on the progress of the training.

The actual repayment of a loan is arranged individually with the financing bank.

A valid class 1 medical and a negative drug screen are mandatory prerequisites for starting the training programme.

Both assessments are organised centrally by German Airways. After successful participation in the assessment, the selected candidates will receive all further information on dates and procedures.

The initial examination must be carried out at a recognised Aeromedical Centre (AMC).

Not mandatory.

The decisive factor is the airworthiness according to EASA OPS Class 1.

In exceptional cases, higher deviations may also be accepted if the AMC issues a positive forecast.

We recommend that applicants with more than ± 3 dioptres undergo prior clarification in order to avoid subsequent restrictions.

If the medical is not issued, the training cannot be started.

The decision is based on German Airways' personnel requirements.

The following evidence must be provided to start the training programme:
  • a class 1 medical certificate of fitness to fly
  • a declaration of impunity
  • information from the driving aptitude register
  • a background check in accordance with Section 7 of the Aviation Security Act (LuftSiG)
  • a valid first aid certificate
Candidates will receive further information on the procedure and the individual certificates during the application and selection process.
