From the classroom to the cockpit: German Airways„ “WingsUp" programme opens up a new career path for the dream job as a pilot / Info day in Cologne on 28 February 2026

  • In cooperation with TFC Flight Training in Essen, German Airways is launching a new training programme with a direct route into the cockpit of the Embraer E190.

Cologne, 21 January 2026. – Together with TFC Flight Training in Essen, German Airways is offering a two-year Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) training course including type rating on the Embraer E190 for the first time from the 2026 training year. The programme is primarily aimed at school leavers with no previous flying experience and includes theoretical and practical training as well as line training directly at German Airways.

German Airways is one of the oldest German airlines and flies a modern Embraer E190 fleet for leading European airlines. Graduates of the programme have a particularly attractive profile for a future job in the cockpit of German Airways thanks to their MPL, type rating and completed line training.

Most of the training takes place at TFC Flight Training in Essen; individual modules can be carried out at other locations. The course lasts around 24 months and is designed for teamwork in the cockpit; the subsequent line training takes place on scheduled flights operated by German Airways.

Applicants should generally be at least 18 years old and have at least a vocational baccalaureate. The selection process should be completed by the end of March 2026. External training loans are available to finance the training costs, for example via specialised providers, the terms of which are agreed individually with the financing bank.

An information day on the new training programme will take place on Saturday, 28 February 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at German Airways in the ABC Tower in Cologne (Ettore-Bugatti-Straße 6-14, 51149 Cologne). Interested parties will receive detailed insights into the process and content of the training programme as well as information on application requirements and financing options.
