German Airways expands its presence at Cologne/Bonn Airport / New hangar enables optimised maintenance and expansion of business with third-party partners

Cologne/Bonn, 12 March 2021. German Airways is significantly expanding its home base at Cologne/Bonn Airport and has now rented and moved into Hangar 2 on the airport site. With the move, the company also intends to further expand its line and base maintenance services for third-party companies. The airline and Cologne/Bonn Airport have been close partners since the early 1990s, when it was still present at the airport under the former company name WDL. Until now, German Airways has maintained its aircraft in Hangar 6.

In Hangar 2, the second oldest German airline now has 3,500 square metres of optimised space available for the maintenance of its aircraft fleet: The new Embraer E190s, which are replacing the airline's previous BAe146 aircraft type, no longer fit completely into Hangar 6. The jets can now be serviced in the new hangar even when the doors are closed. The building also includes a further 800 square metres of office, workshop and storage space.

At the new location, German Airways also intends to step up and further expand its maintenance business with other airlines for the Embraer E190; the company already provides line and base maintenance services for several other airlines. Space in Hangar 2 will also be sublet to partner companies, such as Air Alliance.

The private aircraft fleet of German Airways will also be housed in Hangar 2: The first Pilatus PC12 is currently undergoing the official approval process for passenger transport. The aircraft, known as the "Silver Pony", will be joined by a further PC12 in the summer. With these aircraft, German Airways will offer customised flights for companies and private individuals with a perfect price/performance ratio. The turboprops are equipped with up to eight luxurious passenger seats and can fly to airports and aerodromes throughout Europe. Many additional services can also be booked via the website www.germanairways-private.com.
