German Airways grows and expands its fleet with four more Embraer E190 jets

German Airways is further expanding its fleet. Four more Embraer E190 LRs will be added to the fleet. The aircraft will complement the existing fleet of five aircraft of this type already operated by Germany's second-oldest airline. Of the four new aircraft, three will be delivered this year and one next year in 2023.

German Airways mainly leases the aircraft, including crews, to other airlines on wet leases. Sports clubs, tour operators and companies also like to use the 100-seater aircraft for charter business.

Maren Wolters, Managing Director of German Airways, said on Friday: "We are expecting an upturn in our industry and see great demand for our 100-seater jets. We can benefit from the excellent reputation we have built up in the market, even during the crisis: We are known as a very reliable and, above all, flexible customer-orientated service provider with great expertise in the industry."

The twin-engine E190 from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer had its maiden flight in February 2004 and was certified in August 2005. The first delivery to the launch customer JetBlue was in mid-September 2005. The Embraer 190, which is known for its high fuel efficiency, can accommodate between 98 and 118 passengers, depending on the seating arrangement. By the end of 2020, 565 of the 568 Embraer 190s ordered had been delivered. For a long time, Embraer regional jets were practically unrivalled.
