German Airways joins the ERA industry association of regional airlines / ERA pools the interests of airlines, airports and manufacturers

Berlin, 20 May 2020

The German regional airline brand German Airways is now also represented in the industry association for regional airlines. The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) brings together more than 230 companies from the European regional air transport sector. The association represents the political and economic interests of regional airlines and the companies involved in this industry.

German Airways operates in the regional flight segment with the airline WDL. Its business model is to lease aircraft with crews to larger airlines on a long-term basis under so-called wet lease agreements.

Montserrat Barriga, ERA Director General: "I am delighted to welcome German Airways as a member of our organisation and part of the ERA family. The unprecedented impact of COVID-19 has meant that a collective, powerful voice has never been more important to protect and promote the future of European aviation. We look forward to working with German Airways and overcoming the challenges that this pandemic brings."

Dominik Wiehage, CEO of German Airways parent company Zeitfracht: "We are very pleased that we have now also found a political home with our membership of ERA. Especially in difficult times like the current ones, it is important to work together with other companies that have similar economic interests."

The ERA (European Regions Airline Association) is a trade association. It represents more than 60 airlines and 149 associate members from the entire spectrum of the aviation industry - including manufacturers, airports, suppliers and aviation service providers. ERA represents the interests of its members before the most important European regulatory authorities, governments and legislators. The aim is to promote the long-term and sustainable growth of the industry. An important part of ERA's work is to emphasise the importance of its members as part of the aviation industry and to promote sustainable European air transport.
