Long-term contract extension for hangar use: German Airways works with Cologne/Bonn Airport on a long-term basis

Cologne/Bonn, 26 July 2023. German Airways, Germany's second oldest airline, continues to rely on a close partnership with Cologne/Bonn Airport: the lease agreement for a hangar for the base maintenance of the airline, which is primarily active in the wet lease and charter business, has been extended on a long-term basis. The use of the hangar will enable the airline to further expand its operational and technical capacities at this important location and ensure the smooth maintenance of its fleet. It carries out all base maintenance work on its eight Embraer E190 aircraft with its own technicians.

Cologne/Bonn Airport is the home airport of German Airways and the extension of the lease agreement emphasises the airline's long-term commitment to the location. The airline has been based there since the early 1990s and is deeply rooted in Cologne as a company. The airport's geographical location and excellent infrastructure enable German Airways to maintain its aircraft efficiently and react quickly to changing air traffic requirements.

In addition, Cologne/Bonn Airport makes it possible to strengthen the line maintenance team and ensure optimum uptime for the fleet. The airport is open around the clock and thus offers German Airways optimum conditions for flexible flight operations. This not only contributes to the reliability of flights and the safety of passengers, but also demonstrates the airline's continuous endeavours to further improve service quality and efficiency.

"The extension of the lease agreement for our hangar at Cologne/Bonn Airport is an important step for German Airways," says Maren Wolters, Managing Director of German Airways. "We can thus further expand our location advantage and offer our customers the highest level of service and security. Cologne/Bonn Airport is a strategic location for us, and the contract extension reflects our long-term commitment to the region."

"We are delighted that German Airways will remain loyal to our location," says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. "With the long-term extension of the contract, German Airways and our airport are consolidating their long-standing partnership, which will continue to bear fruit in the future."
