WDL Aviation becomes a member of BARIG
Cologne-based time freight subsidiary WDL Aviation is now working with the international airline association BARIG
Frankfurt am Main, 27 March 2018. WDL Aviation is the latest member to join the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG). The association, based at Frankfurt Airport, represents the common interests of around 100 national and international airlines from the passenger, cargo and tourism sectors. This makes the German BAR the largest association of its kind in the world.
WDL Aviation has been in existence since 1974, is based at Cologne/Bonn Airport and operates a fleet of British Aerospace BAe-146 aircraft for passenger and airfreight throughout Europe. The aircraft are operated on wet lease by well-known European airlines, including Air France and Easyjet. WDL Aviation has been part of the Zeitfracht Group, based in Berlin, since October 2017. BARIG is currently in intensive talks with the company about further cooperation with the association and its member airlines on air cargo and logistics issues.
"We are delighted to welcome WDL Aviation to our ranks as part of the Zeitfracht Group," says BARIG Secretary General Michael Hoppe. "Our association is specifically committed to the interests of our member airlines from the passenger, cargo and tourism segments and thus to the sustainable strengthening and effective further development of Germany as an aviation centre. In addition to the abolition of the air traffic tax, this also includes important, forward-looking issues such as the financial participation of the state in the sovereign task of aviation security and its efficient coordination and organisation between the state, airport operators and airlines."
Dr Wolfram Simon, Managing Director of the Zeitfracht Group: "Our strategic goal is to combine the passenger business with freight transport and to establish a European express network for small packages. With our BARIG membership, we want to emphasise this goal and further promote cooperation with the German and international airlines in BARIG. I am very much looking forward to working together in the international BARIG network."
BARIG (Board of Airline Representatives in Germany) e.V. represents the common interests of around 100 national and international airlines from scheduled flights, holiday flights and air cargo. Since its foundation in 1951, the airline association has been working to improve the framework conditions for air transport in Germany and is the point of contact for politicians, authorities, business and the media. BARIG member airlines transport around 1.7 billion passengers and over 25 million tonnes of freight to more than 1,500 destinations worldwide. Every year, around 225 million passengers travel to and from Germany with BARIG airlines. BARIG airlines employ more than 135,000 people in Germany. The air transport industry secures more than 823,000 jobs and is therefore a decisive economic factor. www.BARIG.aero
